Yesterday's game was a drag. This game feels inevitable to be better. Let's check out the Cardinals lineup. https://twitter.com/Cardinals/status/1001578953453252614 As a noted Jose Martinez At First Base Yeller (as well as a Jose Martinez In The Batter's Box Appreciator), I'm doubly disappointed that the Cardinals have made the rational move and moved Matt Carpenter to…
A tale of two Carpenters
By any reasonable measure, Matt Carpenter's 2018 to this point has been a disappointment. After an abysmal start to the season offensively, Carpenter has rebounded significantly, but he has still been only roughly average at the plate. While Carpenter has logged material innings at first, second, and third base, he is generally not well-regarded defensively--his…
The Cardinals are going to play the Brewers in several baseball games in the near future
Today, the Cardinals begin a three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, one of four current MLB stadiums I've been to (I'm like one of those people with a checklist of stadiums to visit, but without the ambition to actually make an earnest attempt at all thirty). I saw Bo Hart make his…
The Cardinals and the Pirates played a baseball game and here is what happened in it
First things first: This might be the last STL Bullpen post for a few days. We might do recaps, we might not! We don't have any planned non-recap posts until Monday. If something major happens, we'll probably write something. But it's a three-day weekend for us, too, sooooooo... Here were Friday's lineups: https://twitter.com/Cardinals/status/1000119358780211200 https://twitter.com/Pirates/status/1000134153487216641 Whoa,…
The Cardinals are playing in Pittsburgh again and I really hope this goes better
On the very first day in which St. Louis Bullpen was a functioning site, the St. Louis Cardinals launched a three-game series at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who had a good record but who were not generally expected to be playoff contenders before the 2018 season. Greg Holland blew a three-run save (great…
A re-examination of the Marcell Ozuna trade
A hallmark of the 2017 St. Louis Cardinals, a pretty good team which nevertheless did not make the playoffs, were pretty good but not amazing outfielders. With the exception of the genuinely excellent Tommy Pham, most of the Cardinals' outfield playing time was accumulated by Dexter Fowler (good hitter, bad fielder, basically average on balance),…
Putting Adam Wainwright’s career in perspective
He's not quite a Hall of Famer. But Adam Wainwright is a great of his era and a Cardinals legend.
An extremely brief game recap
There once was a closer named Bud, He entered and it was a dud, '18 Royals are depleted, But the Birds were defeated, At least Wacha was a stud.
A Cardinals expansion draft protected list
If you could only hold on to fifteen current St. Louis Cardinals and risk losing all of the others, who would you fight hardest to keep around?
5/22–Cardinals and Royals play a game of baseball
Hey gang, John here. I won't lie--I'm kind of tired right now so my approach on this recap will be pretty...direct? For those of you who are entertained by my rambling, stream of consciousness style of recaps, you may be sad at the brevity of this recap. For those of you who find my style…
